2009 Cellar No. 254 Napa Valley Thomann Station Vineyard

    Petite Sirah

Louis M. Martini Winery embodies a simple, honest premise: only the best grapes make the best wines. This wine is sourced from the exceptional 10-acre Thomann Station Vineyard that sits behind the winery in the vast warmth of the Napa Valley floor. Crafted at our artisan micro-winery, Cellar 254, this small lot Petite Sirah offers a concentrated purple color with aromas of milk chocolate, blueberry syrup, and toasty oak.

We are currently sold out of this wine. Please contact us to reserve your allocation of the next vintage at wineclub@louismartini.com or (866) 549-2582.

    In The Vineyard

Spring of 2009 was warm and dry with an early bud break. We had a moderate growing season causing slow ripening which led to the development of full flavors. Although harvest was slow to start in the Napa Valley, warmer temperatures in August accelerated the last days of the maturation process.

    In The Cellar

We harvested the grapes for our Cellar 254 Petite Sirah at optimal ripeness in late September. The grapes were picked in the early morning to keep the fruit as cool as possible. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes were hand sorted and de-stemmed, but not crushed, leaving mostly whole berries to be cold soaked for two days. The juice remained in contact with the skins for two weeks to maximize color and flavor extraction. Our Petite Sirah completed malolactic fermentation and was aged in new oak barrels.
