Monte Rosso Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
One of California’s most historic vineyards, Monte Rosso is nestled 1,200 feet above the Sonoma Valley in the majestic Mayacamas mountain range. The red volcanic soils and low-yielding old vines on this steep, rugged mountaintop have produced treasured grapes for our family’s portfolio of fine wines since founder Louis M. Martini purchased the legendary vineyard in 1938.
2011 Louis M. Martini Monte Rosso Cabernet Sauvignon was handcrafted from 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from Monte Rosso Vineyard. This monumental red wine delivers complex aromas of cherry, spice and earth. On the palate, the wine offers classic flavors of cassis and anise framed by notes of leather, earth and spice. Maturation in 100% French oak imparted nuanced toast and caramel notes. In 2011, unusually cool temperatures in the Napa Valley led to a protracted growing season and late harvest. The extended hang time allowed our high-elevation Cabernet grapes to achieve a sought-after balance of acidity and concentrated flavors.
