Monte Rosso Vertical Collection

Monte Rosso Vertical Collection

Sonoma Valley / Sonoma County

High in the Mayacamas Mountains, a thousand feet above the Sonoma Valley, basks the Monte Rosso Vineyard. Named for its iron-rich, red volcanic soils, Monte Rosso has produced grapes of unmistakable character for more than a century. Over 250 acres are planted with some of the oldest vines in California, including our 84-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon.

Since the blocks of old vines are not planted with heat-treated clones grafted on modern rootstocks, they’re challenging to care for, but they produce incredibly distinctive wines with character and layers of complexity rarely seen in wines today.

Includes one bottle each of the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Monte Rosso Cabernet Sauvignon, including a branded wood box with ground shipping included.

This premier Cabernet Sauvignon trio exemplifies the best of the varietal, including the 97-point (James Suckling, 2020) 2016 Monte Rosso Cabernet Sauvignon. In addition to the unmistakable spice characteristics of which this terroir is renowned, notes of crème de cassis, warm plums, black cherry and macerated berries shine among the individual vintages.

“This bold, flavorful wine offers well-integrated tones of red currant, dried cherry, dusty leather and clove. Savory and profound in elongated tannins, it holds its powerful ripeness and structure with pride, showing the stuffing to age well. Best 2024–2029.”

“Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 28 months in new French oak (75%) and new American oak (19%), the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso Vineyard sings of blackberry pie, crème de cassis, fried herbs and cast iron pan with touches of tilled soil and dried lavender. Full and concentrated, with firm yet velvety tannins, it delivers mouth-filling black fruit preserves flavors and a long, mineral-laced finish.”

“This is a reserved and tight Monte Rosso with bark and currant character. Wet earth. Full-bodied, balanced and extremely long. Fantastic, subtle finish. Reminds me of old Louis Martini Mountain cabs. Drink after 2022.”
