Dedicated to showcasing distinct site-specific characteristics of our most esteemed mountain sites, this reserve collection includes Cabernet Sauvignons from Monte Rosso Vineyard, Cypress Ranch Vineyard, Howell Mountain and Stagecoach Vineyard
Monte Rosso is perched high in the Mayacamas Mountains and was acquired by Louis M. Martini in 1938. With some vines dating back to the 1880s, this iconic vineyard is covered in mineral-rich volcanic red soils, yielding wines driven by brilliant acidity and distinct notes of spice. Monte Rosso wines age beautifully, developing remarkable earth-driven nuances over time.
Basking in the warmth of Pope Valley, Cypress Ranch is known for its long, warm days and cool, crisp nights that dictate one of the largest diurnal shifts in Napa Valley. Cabernet Sauvignon from Cypress Ranch is highly structured and complex, with a unique balance of medium-dark fruit tones that rest on soft, dusty tannins.
Grape growing on Howell Mountain requires the practice of patience. On a sunny yet cool hillside, these vineyards yield highly concentrated fruit that takes longer to ripen and is the last to be harvested of all our wines. Howell Mountain produces rustic Cabernet Sauvignon that displays dominant notes of blackberry complemented by soft herbal characteristics. The considerable tannins of this wine will slowly smooth out over time
From the towering volcanic terrain eastern reaches of Napa, Stagecoach is among the most renowned vineyards in the valley. Like the gigantic boulders found in the vineyard itself, Stagecoach wines are robust and unhindered, characterized by notes of dense black fruit framed by firm, bold tannins. The vineyard’s enormous quantities of rugged rock mixed with hard volcanic soil imparts earthy notes and dark fruit on a powerful Cabernet Sauvignon.

2021 Cypress Ranch Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
About the Wine
Our Cypress Ranch Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a highly structured, single-vineyard wine. The medium ruby hues that show in the glass reveals the warmth and sunny location where the grapes thrive. Aromas of chocolate covered cherry, black currant and baking spice lead to notes of cherry cola, cocoa powder and stewed black plum. Pleasing on the palate, this Cabernet boasts plush, ripe tannins that add to the complexity on the long finish.
Viticultural Notes
The fruit for our Cabernet Sauvignon originated from our estate Cypress Ranch Vineyard, where the high elevation of the Vaca Mountains and a tremendous diurnal shift result in rich, structurally unique wines. The 2021 growing season marked a much-welcome return to ideal. Winter rains quenched the soil, setting the stage for dry weather the rest of the season. Over the summer, conditions stayed uneventful and mild, giving the grapes the luxury of hanging on the vine. Harvest began early, producing low yields of small berries with intense flavor concentration and optimal ripeness.
Winemaker Notes
Our grapes were hand-harvested and hand-sorted in our micro-winery Cellar No. 254, then cold soaked for up to four days. Fermentation took place in small open-top tanks, allowing for precise and gentle extractions for up to four times per day. Each lot was aged in French oak barrels and evaluated individually, with the final blend occurring mid July. In total, the wine was aged for 19 months in French oak barrels (58% new).

2019 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
About the Wine
A true mountain-grown Cabernet, this wine is unmistakably rustic. The 2019 vintage opens with aromas of red currant and cherry complemented by undertones of forest floor, thyme and fresh cedar. The full-bodied palate boasts notes of chocolate covered cherries and blueberries that rest on ripe, dusty tannins. This wine will slowly smooth over time, rewarding those who are patient enough to cellar for ten to twenty years.
Viticulture Notes
Grape growing on Howell Mountain requires the practice of patience. On a sunny yet cool hillside, these inconspicuous vineyards surrounded by a thicket of Redwood trees yield highly concentrated fruit that takes longer to ripen. The 2019 growing season was exceptional with plentiful winter rains and a cool spring. By June, a consistently warm and steady summer emerged, encouraging canopy growth and allowing fruit to ripen slowly, yielding healthy clusters with rich, complex flavors and excellent structure.
Winemaking Notes
The last to be harvested of all our wines, these grapes were hand-picked at the end of October. Fermentation took place in small open-top tanks, allowing for precise and gentle extraction of color and flavor. Each lot was aged in French oak barrels and evaluated individually, with the final blend occurring the summer of the following year. In total, the wine was aged for 28 months in barrel (70% new).

2019 Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
About the Wine
Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon brings the presence of nearly 1,800 feet elevation piercing through the fog and the unforgiving rocky terrain to this wine. A dense concentration of blueberry reduction and black currant from the longer ripening season rises from the glass. Notes of black mission fig and mocha dust are framed by crushed bay leaf and star anise. A buoyant, supple structure and youthful mouthfeel carries through to a lasting finish.
Viticulture Notes
With over half of the varieties planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Stagecoach Vineyard is among the most renowned vineyards in the valley. Vintage 2019 was near perfect with early rain, a dry winter and fog-shrouded mornings over a long, warm summer. The fruit arrived in pristine condition with vibrant color, soft tannins and bright acidity.
Winemaking Notes

2020 Monte Rosso Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
About the Wine
The historic Monte Rosso Vineyard is one of California’s oldest Cabernet Sauvignon plantings that dates back to 1880. Located in the Moon Mountain subregion of Sonoma Valley, it sits in the shadow of the Mayacama mountain range at 1,300 feet above sea level. This beautifully balanced Cabernet Sauvignon is made from select lots from within this amazing vineyard. Deep ruby in color, this wine leads with aromas of toasted coconut, caramel, baked cherries, fig and bay leaves. Notes of cherry pie filling, Santa Rosa plum, allspice and graham cracker are revealed on the full-bodied palate. The long, balanced finish boasts with a supple mouthfeel and round tannin structure.
Viticulture Notes
The 2020 vintage was a challenging year. Warm dry spring conditions led to early budbreak and a slight reduction in crop size. The typical diurnal temperature swings kicked in, and we did not see any prolonged heat spikes until late in the season. We began picking in late September and finished during the first week of October.
Winemaking Notes
Select Cabernet Sauvignon blocks were carefully hand harvested, hand sorted, and gravity fed into small open top fermenters for cold soaking up to three days. After fermentation, the wine was racked into oak barrels to undergo its final fermentation. All blocks were kept separate until the final blend was chosen and assembled. The wine rested in a combination of French (73% new) and American (14% new) oak barrels for approximately 28 months of aging.
