2022 Cellar No. 254 Petite Sirah
Grown in our backyard, the fruit of this wine was picked and immediately hand-sorted in our winery before a three-day cold soak allowed for a gentle extraction of flavor and color. We then used a combination of punch-downs and rack-and-returns during fermentation, which helped build a balanced Petite Sirah, before aging for 17 months in French oak. Aromas of blackberry, crushed gravel and applewood lead this full-bodied wine into notes of blueberry cobbler, black pepper and hints of clay pot. A long finish ends with a kiss of toasted oak.

This 100% petite sirah comes from the Thomann Station Vineyard in St. Helena behind the winery. Cuttings from the Haynes Vineyard were planted in the late 1980s. It has the dark color, full body and dense tannins for which the grape variety is known, but somewhat tamed and supple, wrapping around blueberries, dark chocolate and blackberries. Best from 2027.
