Tasting Notes
Our 2021 Gnarly Vine Zinfandel is a structured wine that beautifully showcases Monte Rosso vineyard in the glass. Lively aromas of Morello cherry and pomegranate are complemented by hints of orange zest, leather, star anise and clove. The mouthwatering palate is marked by notes of tea leaf, cherry and red plum as classic Monte Rosso earth and baking spice linger on the extended finish.
"A hint of asphalt marks the nose of the 2021 Gnarly Vine Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard, but vigorous swirling reveals minty, briary scents and ample blackberry fruit. Full-bodied and expansive but firmly tannic and structured, this muscular effort finishes long, with bright acids. Composed of two blocks and including a decent proportion of other varieties that were co-planted with Zinn back in the day, this wine continues to see some American oak, although increasingly puncheons versus barriques."
